Target Gets Ready For the Holiday Shopping Season

This year, Target is offering customers several ways to shop and save money including in-store, online and with a mobile device. You can take advantage of their newly upgraded low price promise, shop for top toys with FREE shipping, get advance notice on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and more.

If you have the Target App on your smartphone, all these features become even more convenient. You can learn more about the Target App HERE and add it to your phone for FREE. You can also text “APP” to 827438 (TARGET) to receive a download link. Target is also providing FREE Wi-Fi this holiday season in all its stores.

ONLINE PRICE MATCH: There’s been a couple of temporary improvements to Target’s Price Matching policy that have some nice perks. For starters- from now thru December 16th, Target will price match its online competitors, including Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Bestbuy.com, Toysrus.com and babiesrus.com. Customers will only need to show the online price for the item using their smartphone or ask customer service to look it up. Typical rules will apply (no B1G1, no % Off etc) and you should be able to price match within 7 days of your purchase. Also remember that manufacturer coupons can be used on items you are looking to price match, but Target coupons cannot be used.

HOLIDAY PRICE MATCH: Although online prices won’t be honored past 7 days of your receipt- there is also Holiday Price Match. This special holiday policy allows anything you buy in-store at Target now to be price-adjusted all the way up until December 24th. (excludes online price matches and Black Friday ads). You may have even noticed this advertised on page 11 of this week’s (10/28) Target ad.

So for example if you buy a Wii Game for $24.99 at Target today and see it in a Walmart print Ad on December 20th for $19.99, you may go up to GS with your receipt and a copy of the Walmart ad and you will be refunded the difference of $5. Target will also honor a price adjustment on its own print ads – but no online prices so no Target.com. Again- only manufacturer coupons can be used on a price match, store coupons are out.

FREE Wi-Fi AT TARGET: One of the ways the online price matching can get easier for those of you with poor phone reception in Target is FREE Wi-Fi now available at many stores. To connect to Target’s FREE Wi-Fi service, just check your phone’s settings for Wi-Fi. Your phone may be different, but for me, Wi-Fi has to be turned ON and then I select “Ask to Join Network”. Target will then prompt with a screen asking you to “Agree to Terms” before connecting you (scroll down to see “CONNECT” button.

I have found that Target limits your connection time, so if you find yourself having trouble, just go to your Wi-Fi setting, select “Target Wi-Fi” and agree to terms again. Note: If you need assistance connecting, I would ask for help in the Electronics Department. I have found them to be pretty helpful.

FREE SHIPPING ON ALL TOP TOYS: Target is featuring 20 top toys this year that all ship FREE regardless of whether you have a REDcard or not. Aside from FREE shipping when ordering on Target.com, you can also check out these toys in the store. Just look for the signs that say “Top Toy and on each one there will be a QR code that can be scanned with the Target App on your mobile device. This way you can purchase the toy directly with the app and ship it for free to anyone, anywhere in the U.S. This is also convenient for those of you who find yourselves having to shop with your children most of the time. You will be able to shop for a gift without them even knowing you’ve done it. 🙂

BLACK FRIDAY ALERTS: You can also sign up to receive Special Text Alerts from Target for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, plus exclusive offers and weekly ad reminders all year long. Just text the word “DEALS” to 827438 (TARGET) or go HERE and click on “Sign Up” and complete the short form. Message and Data Rates may apply.

TARGET 2012 HOLIDAY TOY BOOK: The Target Toy Book for 2012 contains some very nice coupons this year! This book showed up for many of you as a home mailerand many of you may have also gotten this book in your 11/4 Sunday Newspaper.

USUALLY we see the book put out in stores, and the ads for the weeks of 10/28 & 11/4 stated to look for these books in store. However, this year, according to a comment left on the Target Facebook Page, they will not be offeing this book in stores. But if you did not get the Target 2012 Toy Coupon Book in your 11-4 Newspaper or by mail- you can ask the cashier at checkout. Each cashier should have a scan sheet in order to apply the coupon to your purchase. This is what I have heard will happen this year since it looks like the toy books will notbe put out in stores this year. For more information on the coupons available this year- see my post HERE. There are 12 coupons inside -worth $63 in savings! There are also codes for these coupons that you can use online. For a current list of online coupon codes for Target.com- check out the Coupon Codes section on my Target Coupon Page.

Target to Price Match Online Competitors Starting 11/1

Watching the news last night I was pleasantly surprised to hear some pretty cool Target news! They announced that for the first time, they will match prices with select online competitors between Nov. 1st and Dec. 16th. Customers will only need to show the online price for the item using their smartphone or ask customer service to look it up. These online retailers include Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Bestbuy.com, Toysrus.com and babiesrus.com. Sounds very cool to me! There was also an article that Gerard saw in the Washington Post if you want to check it out HERE

To make it easier to check online deals with your smartphone, Target has started providing FREE Wi-Fi in its stores with plans to have it in all stores for the holiday season. FREE Wi-Fi also makes it convenient to use Target’s mobile app, redeem mobile coupons and scan QR codes. If you’re not familiar with QR codes, its short for “quick response code” and works like a bar code that you can scan with a camera-equipped smartphone for more information. For example, the Target mobile app can scan a QR code on a product and give you price, details, etc. Don’t you just love technology?! 🙂

Target Refund/Exchange Policy Know-How

I thought it might be a good idea to take a look at Target’s Return Policy and try and give you a few pointers on how you can try and make the process go smoother. Target says they want your return experience to be as hassle-free as possible, but, there are certain stipulations you need to follow, otherwise you may be out of luck. Most unopened items in new condition returned within 90 days will receive a full refund or exchange, especially when accompanied by a store receipt. However, some items have a modified return policy that gives you less time to return. Your best bet is to check your receipt for a “return by” date, listed under the item on your receipt or packing slip, and in the “item details, shipping” tab if purchased on Target.com.

Return Options
For in-store returns, there are 3 ways Target can attempt to process a return for you: 1) scan your receipt or packing slip, 2) do a receipt look-up if you have the credit card that was used to make the purchase, or 3) do a return or exchange with a valid form of identification if you don’t have the receipt with you. Option #3 in some cases, can be the most difficult to pursue, and on Target’s website, they recommend going online to process the return.

Target Packing Slip
Pictured at top right is an example of Target’s packing slip. There are 2 important numbers that help Target identify your purchase: #1 – the Order ID code found in the top right corner. This number is also included in the confirmation email you received when you placed your order. #2 – the Release ID number which is also in the top right corner. Your packing slip will also outline the available Return Method for your purchase.

Target’s Receipt Look-Up
In most cases, Target stores can verify purchases made in Stores and on Target.com within the last 90 days on a credit or debit card, check or GiftCard using their Refund Look-up System.

TIP: Whenever I make a purchase from Target that I think I may need to return, ie., an appliance that may not work, or a piece of furniture that may not fit my home decor, I write at the top of the receipt, “Keep” and file it away in an envelope in my purse or in a drawer in my desk. That way, I know where to find it when I need it. Now of course, I’m not always so organized. That’s when I rely on Target’s receipt look-up policy. I only use 2 debit cards so if the purchase is not on one, I know its on the other one. Do you have a clever way of keeping your receipts organized? If so, please share it with us in the comments below.

Online Returns
You can also choose to return your item online at Target.com, but, keep in mind that shipping and handling fees will be deducted from the value of your refund unless the return is a result of Target’s error. So you may want to look at the cost of postage before deciding to return online. If you do decide to mail in your return, you can go HERE and follow the instructions provided to process your return and print the prepaid Target.com return label.

Gift Registry Returns
Whenever you receive a gift, remember to keep your PACKING SLIP or GIFT RECEIPT. With it, you can return the item to your local Target store or ship it back to Target with relative ease. If you do not have the Gift Receipt but have a Gift Registry at Target, you can print out your “Gift Purchase Log” anytime from Target.com or at a store Kiosk and use it just like a receipt. You can read more about Target’s Gift Registry Return Policy HERE.

NOTE: Customers do not always let Target know when they are purchasing a gift registry item, in which case, there will not be a record of it on the Gift Purchase Log. You can print a gift receipt but you will need both the Order Number and Release ID to do so.

So a word to all Target gift givers… Please remember to include a gift receipt or packing slip whenever you purchase a gift. They do not display any price information and make returns much easier. You can obtain a gift receipt during checkout at any Target store. If you ever forget to ask for a Gift receipt, bring in your original receipt and Target Guest Services can print as many as you’d like. Or you can print online following the instructions HERE. Just scroll down to where it says, “printing a gift receipt”.

Return Exceptions
There are exceptions to the Target Return Policy in terms of what can be returned or not returned, or only exchanged. For example, did you know that all Halloween costumes and accessories must be returned by 10/31? Or that cameras must be returned within 30 days for a refund or exchange? You can go HERE and scroll down to where it says, “exceptions” to learn more.

Refund Payment
Target’s policy is to issue refunds in the same form as payment originally used for purchase but there are exceptions. You can go HERE and read under “refunds” for more details on how refunds are issued. Included in this list are check purchases, coupon purchases, discounts and promotions and more.
